This design is steeped in a regal and pedigreed history. The original binding hails from Urbino, a legendary Italian walled city. When Cardinal Giovanni Albani of Urbino ascended to the papacy in the 18th century, he gave back to his city, renovating buildings like the cathedral for which our Duomo cover is named.
