Silence
for continuous prayer is integral to the living of Benedictine monastic life.
Silence is observed in all parts of the Abbey, except the community room and the formation room, where sisters in initial formation gather to share a meal or to chat.

Silence is thus observed while working, resting, walking and during the midday meal in the refectory.
Reading from the Rule of St Benedict and other spiritual works accompanies the midday meal.

The Cloisters are seen as part of the nun's monastic journey, walking from one part of the abbey to another, from one occupation to another and are always places of silence for prayer.
The spirit of silence observed in the abbey at Jamberoo is not a rigid one but rather a gentle, prayerful and loving silence. The nuns keep silence out of love for one another and reverence for each one's deep communion with God in thought and prayer.
